Tennis South Africa (TSA) confirmed on Thursday that the Growthpoint Top Guns national club tennis tournament will return this October for a second year running in partnership with headline sponsor, Growthpoint Properties.

The tournament which will feature both men and women in a doubles team competition intends to give grassroots tennis in the country a boost with over R200 000.00 in prize money up for grabs.

Each team which will comprise of two men and two women will play men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

In a boost for transformation, 2 clubs from historically under-served communities will be given wild-cards into the national final.

The event will once again be played in 14 tennis regions across South Africa, with each region hosting a local event to crown both A Division and B Division regional champions. Each of the A Division regional champions will then qualify for the national final - to be played at a central venue in February 2019.

The B Division will be introduced for the first time to broaden the reach of the tournament and the division will aim at more social players. This means the tournament will now comprise of both an A Division and a B Division for the first time.

Next year’s event promises to be another enthralling tournament following a successful inaugural Growthpoint Top Guns which captured the imagination of hundreds of tennis clubs across South Africa.

Camps Bay Tennis Club from Cape Town were crowned as the first ever Top Guns champions after winning a thrilling action-packed national final at Sun City in the North West Province.
